😡 Quitter's Day
In this issue of the newsletter, I wrote about New Year's Resolutions and mentioned that January 17th is called Quitter's Day - the day that most people quit on the goals they set for the new year.
We're past that date so if you set any goals for the new year, at this point you're in one of two camps:
- You already QUIT on your New Year's goals, or
- You're still going strong!
If you're in camp #2, CONGRATULATIONS and keep up the good work!
If you're in camp #1, or anywhere in between, here are a few ways to quickly get back on track!
STEP 1. Don't beat yourself up. Just get back on the horse.
Don't allow victim mindset to set in. Accept that you may have gotten a bit off track, dust yourself off, and get back at it!
STEP 2. RE-EVALUATE YOUR GOALS.
Take a look at the goals you set. Are they too aggressive and perhaps not attainable, which made you discouraged? Are you not really that passionate about them?
Determine which goals are really important to you and why. Set up goals that you are achievable. It's OK to update your goals immediately and make a course correction.
STEP 3. SET SHORT TERM GOALS AND HIT THEM!
Revisit my original goal setting email and set goals with shorter time horizons.
Instead of annual goals, shorten down your goals to 12 weeks, 1 month, 1 week, 1 day or even 1 hour. Whatever you need to do to start hitting some of your goals.
When you start hitting your goals consistently, you will gain confidence, which will motivate you to keep going!
One more thing about goals. I've never been a big fan of setting ridiculous goals that you have no intention of actually achieving. I've heard people say that if you reach for the stars and miss, you'll hit the moon. While that sounds great, constantly missing your goals is de-motivating and not exciting. I'm not saying that you should create goals that are super easy to hit without effort, but you need to figure out something that you actually intend on achieving.
